How
do I know the vehicle I want is exempt from the
congestion charge?
All vehicles which are exempt
are listed on the power shift register for more
details go to www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/fleet/cityschemes/congestioncharge/

If
I convert my vehicle to LPG, will I automatically
get the congestion charge discount?
No. Your vehicle must be listed
in the PowerShift Register. Furthermore, the LPG
equipment fitted and the convertor used must also
meet the specifications outlined in the Register.

If
a vehicle has been converted by an installer that
is not on the Register, it is not eligible for
a discount?
Individuals do not generally
apply for vehicles to be put on the PowerShift
Register due to the strict requirements and costs
involved. For example, a European standard emissions
test on a rolling road in a vehicle test laboratory
has to be undertaken. This can cost up to £5,000.

What
about alternative fuel vehicles?
At the present time bio fuel
vehicles are not exempt as the co2 emissions are
equivalent to the petrol versions of the same
car.
Top
Why
are bio fuels described as green cars?
With bio fuel vehicles they have
an impact on co2 production because they are created
from sustainable renewable resources which have
a positive effect on reducing co2 in the atmosphere
as opposed to the burning of none renewable fossil
fuels this balances out the co2 emissions .

What
about used vans?
If the vehicle is out side of
the manufacturers warranty then there is not an
issue and most converters give a specific warranty
to cover all parts of the conversion these recognised
converters are listed on the power shift register.

What
paperwork do I need to complete?
All the necessary paperwork and
requirements are listed on the congestion charging
website at www.cclondon.com

What
is the London Low Emission Zone?
As proposed only diesel powered
vehicles are affected. The scheme is introduced
at different dates for different classes of vehicle
based on their weight and type.
From February 2008 Goods vehicles
over 12 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW).
From July 2008 Goods vehicles
over 3.5 tonnes GVW, and buses and coaches with
more than 8 passenger seats over 5 tonnes GVW.
From October 2010 Heavier Light
Goods Vehicles (LGVs) over 1205 kg unladen weight,
and under 3.5 tonnes GVW and minibuses under 5
tonnes GVW.

Are
there any changes due to the congestion charge?
In august 2007 a public discussion
document is being released to discuss the future
of the congestion charge and to look at changes
based around the co2 emissions of the engines
of modern vehicles due to the rapid changes in
technology. That is why we are not promoting lpg
cars as their future exemption is not assured
.
